2021 Virtual Strings and Voice
Solo and Ensemble Festival

Purpose
To encourage the study and performance of solo and ensemble literature through practice, performance, adjudicator ratings, and comments in order to improve student individual and group performance.
Goals
JSU Department of Music Virtual Strings and Voice Ensemble Festival:
- Increase student understanding of solo and ensemble literature
- Encourage students to continue their individualized-study of music
- To promote students interest and participation in chamber ensembles
- To create networking opportunities between JSU faculty, staff, and notable adjudicators
Eligibility
- All students in grades 9-12 are eligible. Students may enter through a private or school instructor.
- All strings and vocalists are welcomed.
- Literature must be the appropriate grade level for students’ musical ability.
- Memorization is not required but encouraged.
- Pieces should not exceed 8 minutes.
- If the pieces have a piano accompaniment (live or electronic), you are urged to use it. If this is not possible, your rating/comment will not be affected.
- Students must provide a pdf copy of their literature.
- Ensembles may not have more than 20 students.
- Ensembles of 6 or less should not be conducted.
- Ensembles of 7 or more may be conducted if desired.
- Fees are due with the submission of the application.
Judging
Students may choose to participate for a rating: (1- superior, 2- excellent, 3, good, 4 fair) OR comments only. Students may qualify for scholarship opportunities and certificate/medal recognition.

Application/Fees
Application/Fees must be submitted by February 21, 2021
Fee Structure:
Solo – $6.00
Small Ensemble (2-6) (duo- sextet) – $6.00 (per individual)
Large Ensemble (7-18) – $8.00 (per individual)
All Fees are NON-Refundable
