Handshake

What is Handshake?

Handshake is the leading way students find employment. Handshake is also the Career Services Center’s online management system that allows students access to all part-time, full-time, and internship opportunities. Once registered, you have access to thousands of opportunities and employer contact information. Other resources available at Handshake include:

  • Access to upcoming events.
  • Access to job search tools tailored to your preferences.
  • Access to on-campus interviews.
  • Access to companies’ profiles.
  • And much more!

 

Information For New And Current Students

Steps to Activate Your Account:

  1. Visit https://jsums.joinhandshake.com/login
  2. Click on Jackson State University Login.
  3. Log in using your NETID credentials (Ex. Username: OneJ0000087 Password: NET ID Password)
  4. Select your major, university, and graduation date.
  5. Agree to the terms.
  6. Complete your “Profile”

Uploading Your Resume:

If you have not developed a resume or wish to view some tips on resume designs, please refer to the Career Services Center Guide.

  1. Click on your account icon in the upper-right corner of Handshake, then click on “Documents”.
  2.  If you haven’t uploaded a document before, you can drag and drop your file to the screen, or click the blue “Select from Computer” button, then choose the file on your computer.
  3. In the pop-up that appears, a preview of your documents will load. Take the following steps:
    • Review the “Document Name” text field – it defaults to the file name on your computer, but you can make changes as desired.
      • Tip: If you are uploading a resume for a specific application, include the company name in the Document Name for future reference!
    • Select the “Document Type” from the dropdown
      • Pay special attention to the document type! If you upload a transcript but set the document type as resume, it won’t be included in your list of transcript documents when applying for jobs. Make sure the “document type” accurately represents the document.
    • Click Add Document to complete the upload.

While the document uploads, the page will have a placeholder. When the upload is finished, the PDF of your resume will be available to review and manage on the document overview page.

Your Profile and Its Importance:

The information you put into your profile qualifies you for access to jobs and interviews. Be sure to update your profile throughout your academic career, making note of changes in your classification, GPA, and academic status.

Information For Employers:

Employers and on-campus departments can/manage all positions (full-time/part-time jobs and internships via Handshake.) As an employer, you are granted the opportunity to create, edit, and update all of your employment opportunities online!

  1. Visit http://www.jsums.joinhandshake.com
  2. Select “Sign up here” in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Select the “Sign up here” link under “Are you an employer” or sign in if you already have an account.
  4. Create an account using your work email.
  5. Complete your “profile”.
