“Bodak Yellow Challenge – SPLAUD Edition” Video
Inspired by a popular challenge on social media, undergraduate students in the Department of Speech-Language and Pathology and Audiology took on the “Bodak Yellow SPLAUD Edition” challenge. The Bodak Yellow challenge involves re-writing the lyrics to Cardi B’s (a contemporary rap artist who performed in JSU’s homecoming concert) hit song for various purposes and audiences. In the SPLAUD edition of the Bodak Yellow challenge, students re-wrote the lyrics of the popular song to reflect their JSU experiences and knowledge of their discipline. In their version the song, students managed to include many academic topics, information from their courses, the names of their professors, and public health!
Through the undergraduate JSU chapter of the National Student Speech, Language, Hearing Association, the students submitted their songs to Mrs. Whitney Perkins, the advisor. The winning song, written and performed by Mickala Hodges and Mykela Croft (senior CMD students) is attached. The video, which features the students, can be viewed on Facebook at @NSSHLAJSUUndergraduate and @CommunicativeDisordersAtJacksonStateUniversity.
In less then 48 hours, the video was viewed more than 2,500 times on the internet. The song and video will be used in recruitment efforts.
