University Events

During this unprecedented time, Jackson State University adapted to emerging policies and proceedings. As the university implemented new ways to bring educational, social, and administrative procedures to students, faculty and staff, it was also highly important that each department change its method of delivering services while remaining in compliance with CDC protocols. Please see the following event-related info for fall 2021.
As an added safety measure, the following policies were implemented to protect the staff, faculty, students, and community-at-large who participate in or host Jackson State University activities on campus:
  • All non-academic activities or events were restricted during the fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semester, due to an anticipated high volume of participation. The restriction included activities or events not related to an academic class or grade requirement. This restriction will continue through Fall 2021
  • All academic activities hosted outside a classroom space will undergo a review and approval process. The academic activity must follow the university’s COVID-19 Task Force guidelines, CDC guidelines, and state and city policies. The final details provided by the event organizer will also be utilized to determine approval. Academic activities include, but are not limited to, the following: ACT testing, English Proficiency Exams, and Commencement.
  • Non-academic events hosted by external organizations, groups, and/or individuals will be restricted and subject to final approval from the Department of Events. These activities include, but are not limited to, alumni chapter meetings, graduate chapter organizations, banquets, luncheons, etc.

The mission of Jackson State University is to place the health and safety of our dedicated staff, faculty, and students as the top priority. As circumstances regarding the virus remain fluid and ever-changing, we emphasize that policies may be adjusted on a case-by-case basis.

Fall 2021 University-Sponsored In-person Events

All University-sponsored in-person events are subject to approval by Events & Visitor Services and the Division of Student Affairs. Events will be approved on a case-by-case basis and must adhere to all University and CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

We will continue to monitor CDC guidelines and adhere to the university’s COVID-19 Task Force recommendations. Although the physical presence and interaction that serve as the epicenter of events has temporarily diminished, the true essence remains intact – innovation, adaptation, and the determination to forge ahead.
