Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program

Thank you for your interest in the McNair Scholars Program! In order to be considered for participation in the McNair Scholars Program, please be sure to complete this application in it’s entirety including attaching ALL required documents.

Although you should be able to save and restart this application, you may want to review the checklist below, take some time to make notes and gather the required documents, and then return to submit your application   all at once.

1. Review the eligibility requirements for the McNair Scholars Program to ensure you qualify before applying.

2. Gather your application materials.

A. Financial Verification Documents (at least one of the listed documents)

• • A signed statement of income status from the applicant (if independent) or a parent/legal guardian (if dependent);
  • FAFSA Student Aid Report (including the Student Aid Index);
  • Verification from another governmental source; OR
  • Signed prior-year tax return from the parent/guardian who claims the applicant as a dependent, or from the applicant if independent.

B. Personal Statement addressing the following:

• • Tell a little bit about your background and how you selected your major
  • Why would you like to become a McNair Scholar and why you should be selected?
  • What are your academic and career interests and how will becoming a McNair Scholar assist you with your goals?
  • How does graduate school fit into your career goals?
  • What are your educational and research interests?
  • How can the McNair Research Scholars Program assist you in achieving your professional goals?

C. Contact information for three (3) individuals who can write STRONG FAVORABLE letters detailing your academic potential, motivation, and ability for success as a McNair Scholar and in graduate school.

3. Once you have completed steps 1 & 2, you are ready to complete the online application.
