RUNNING

FINDING THE RIGHT RUNNING SHOES:

Before you start running you need to ensure that you have the right running shoe.  Aside from getting the right size, you need to ensure that you use the shoe that best serves how your feet interact with the ground when running.  You can either do the research and assess yourself or you can visit a running store and ask a knowledgeable representative to help you determine the type of running shoe you need.  The following website from Runner’s World is one tool that can help you in assessing your running shoe needs:  http://www.runnersworld.com/shoefinder.  NOTE:  AFROTC Det 006 does not endorse Runner’s World.

RUNNING FORM AND TRAINING:

Dr. Mark Cucuzzella is a Professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine, a Lt Col in the US Air Force Reserves, and currently the Chief Medical Consultant for the Air Force Marathon.  He has developed numerous training materials and videos on how to properly train and run.  While Dr. Cucuzzella is a barefoot runner, the principles also apply to those who use running shoes.  Below are a few of his training resources:
