Implicit Bias Think Tank

The Jackson State University ADVANCE (JSU ADVANCE) project is organizing an Implicit Bias Think Tank on March 22-23, 2017, at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Mississippi, as a culminating event of our National Science Foundation funded ADVANCE project. JSU ADVANCE has been successful in transforming the climate and culture of our institution and aims to adapt and implement best practices for mitigating implicit bias throughout the entire JSU campus. The theme of the conference is “Understanding the Impact of Bias in Minority Higher Education Institutions and our Communities: Required Interventions and Policy Recommendations.”

The Implicit Bias Think Tank will result in a heightened awareness of how race, gender, sexual preference, or other targeted characteristics can influence the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of people, even those who consider themselves unbiased. Representatives from each of our academic schools and colleges will be involved in these breakout sessions and will be examining implicit bias as it affects faculty and students in their units.
