Army Physical Fitness Test Standards

The Army Physical Fitness Test is a test designed to test your upper body, lower body, and abdominal strength and endurance. You MUST meet the minimum standards on an APFT in order to contract with JSU Army ROTC. 

While the US Army is currently overhauling the APFT, JSU Army ROTC will continue to use the standard three event test to measure fitness. Below are the minimum and maximum standards for each event, broken down by gender and age group.

The APFT is conducted at a minimum biannually, and consists of two minutes of pushups, two minutes of situps, and a two mile run. You are allowed ten minutes of rest between events.

The average incoming male Cadet (18-19 years old) must be able to perform a minimum of 42 pushups in two minutes, 53 situps in two minutes, and run two miles in 15:54. 

The average incoming female Cadet (18-19 years old) must be able to perform a minimum of 19 pushups in two minutes, 53 situps in two minutes, and run two miles in 18:54.
