CENTER FOR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS (CAPS)

The Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) is a comprehensive College of Business resource center that focuses on preparing students for their entry into the business world.  The Center is comprised of the Student Professional Development Services, Student Advising and Retention Services, and Student Career Management and Placement Services.

STUDENT SUCCESS

JSU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS KNACK MANAGED PEER TUTORING PROGRAM

Knack is a student success tool in the College of Business aimed at supporting students and providing them with the opportunity to engage in academic tutoring sessions for business courses that they may find somewhat challenging and difficult.

The Knack tutoring platform enables College of Business students to book business course-specific peer tutoring and mentoring services. Knack enables students to learn from one another. Knack’s platform allows students to book one-on-one and group tutoring sessions.

STUDENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

Student Professional Development Services is designed to provide students instruction in a series of professional development courses. 

STUDENT ADVISING AND RETENTION SERVICES

Student Advising and Retention Services assists students with a wide range of advisement services, programs, and activities.  It also directs students to their major department where they will be able to receive detailed academic advisement from their faculty advisor.  The office works with student retention efforts in the College of Business.

CAREER MANAGEMENT AND PLACEMENT SERVICES

The purpose of Career Management and Placement Services is to provide students with a wide-range of career-related services whether they seek experiential learning experiences in business organizations, permanent employment opportunities in business and industry, or advanced study opportunities in graduate school.  Students are provided with a variety of career and employment-related tools, resources, and interview opportunities.

Student success is augmented through services of the Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS), which oversees the delivery of the College’s Professional Development curriculum, coordinates the College’s Internship programs, and advises student organizations. CAPS also houses the Career Services Office.

The Center for External Relations coordinates sponsored research, executive education, and advancement/development activities of the College, while the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers business counseling to existing and prospective small businesses.  The Center for Research in Economic Education and Literacy in Finance (CREELF) provides an academic resource for public and private schools, K-12 teachers and students, and adult learners in the Urban Central Mississippi area. The College houses a state-of-the-art Trading Room.

In addition to 40 full-time faculty members, the college has frequent visitors and lecturers from business, government, and nonprofit organizations who share their insight and experience. Students have regular opportunities to interact with academics, top researchers, executives, and managers from businesses and industries in the Jackson Metropolitan area and around the nation.
