RESEARCH

on Writing at an HBCU

Thank you for your interest in our research.

In the Richard Wright Center for Writing, Rhetoric, and Research, we also conduct research into issues related to student writing. Our staff and tutors, undergraduate and graduate, participate in professional conversations in the field of Rhetoric and Composition and Writing Center Studies, presenting at state, regional, and international conferences and writing for publication.

We are currently conducting a study entitled “Absence in the Center: A Study on Declining Student Attendance at an HBCU Writing Center” (IRB Protocol# 0036-25). The purpose of this project is to determine 1) why there is a decline in student attendance at our on-campus writing center, and 2) if that decline is connected to having more options, i.e., multiple on-campus tutoring sites, online professional tutoring services, like NetTutor, and other campus learning communities.

The study is funded in part by Southeastern Writing Center Association, Christine Cozzens Research Grant and Initiative.
